23 July 2015BMX World Championships: Liam riding 'better than ever'

Great Britain's Liam Phillips says he is riding "better than ever" as he aims to reclaim the BMX World Championships title in Belgium this week.

Phillips, 26, was world champion in 2013 and won the 2014 World Cup Series.

"I certainly would love to wear that jersey again," said Phillips, who crashed out of last year's World Championships.

"We've done a lot of work on the technical side but I've also made some really good physical gains."

Phillips is fourth in the BMX Supercross World Cup series, having won the opener in Manchester before crashing in the Papendal edition in May.

He is one of five GB riders - with 2014 world bronze medallist Tre Whyte, Kyle Evans, Quillan Isidore and Charlotte Green - taking part in the World Championships in Zolder.

The time trial will take place on Friday and the supercross event on Saturday.

"I know that come race day if I can execute I should be in contention to challenge for the podium," said Phillips.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of trying to execute some of the stuff I've done in training."

GB coach Grant White said: "It's all shaping nicely. We're looking forward to getting stuck in to racing.

"Preparation for Liam has gone really well. He's as fast as he's ever been in training and in a technical sense he's doing things on the track he couldn't do six months ago.

"Liam's capable but sometimes things do happen in BMX that are unexpected so you need things to go your way."
